A preview of Ray Bradbury Experience Museum (RBEM) exhibits will be featured on Thursday, January 9, 2020 when the RBEM Committee accepts adonation from Waukegan H & R Block franchiseowners, husband and wife Feroze Hanif and SamiaFeroze.
Members of the media and the general public are invited to the event at 13 N. Genesee Street, in downtown Waukegan, the location of the future museum.
RBEM plans a Phase 1 opening for the Ray Bradbury Centennial year celebration in August 2020. The Committee is raising $230,000 for interactive exhibits featuring The Martian Chronicles, the life of Ray Bradbury, and films to bring the imagination of Waukegan’s famed native son to existing fans and new audiences.
“We are supportingtheRay Bradbury Experience Museum as a project to increase tourism and bring educational and cultural opportunities to Waukegan,” said Hanif, who won the award for his H&R franchise 1430 N. Lewis Avenue, Waukegan.H & R representatives from Kansas City corporate offices will present the award to Waukegan H & R owners at the event.
Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham will launch the event with opening remarks. RBEM Committee members will present“Ray Bradbury Then and Now” through displays and video, while Keith Michalek, senior designer, Chicago Exhibit Productions, will highlight the museum’s “experience” concept.
The mission of the Ray Bradbury Experience Museum is to inspire imagination and foster free-thinking and creativity through engagement in the universal themes and timeless works of Ray Bradbury, and to honor him with an experiential museum in his hometown of Waukegan, Illinois, his celebrated “Green Town.”
The Ray Bradbury Experience Museum is a nonprofit program of the Greater Waukegan Development Coalition (GWDC), a 501(c)(3) economic development corporation.
